In the modern era, homes and offices often require a wide range of data services, video streaming apps such as Netflix and Stan, high-speed internet access, IPTV, Foxtel on demand and much more.

Whether you need direct internet access in multiple rooms or want to make sure you have access to a particular service across those rooms, it is important to make sure that you have the right infrastructure set up that can handle the load. That’s where Data Cabling comes in!

We can provide:

  • Re-cabling of new homes, CAT6, CAT6A
  • Troubleshooting and repairs of smart wiring systems
  • Performance testing existing cabling using our Fluke Cable Certifier

Our data cabling services

  • Install data points in additional rooms, bringing your internet connection to all rooms using quality certified CAT6 or CAT6A cabling.

  • Re-wiring and CAT5 to CAT6A upgrades to older homes, allowing a more reliable ability to most reliably allow for 10 gigabit Ethernet and take advantage of ever increasing NBN internet speeds, such as the Hyperfast 2500 plan.

  • We can performance test your data cabling using our Fluke cable certifier against TIA/ISO standards, with detailed reports.  Very few data cablers in Perth own a cable certifier.

  • Installation and cabling of Wifi access points to improve Wifi reception throughout your home, remove dead spots and maintain the highest possible NBN speed to all wireless devices.

  • Ethernet and LAN cabling for home or small business networks, from extra RJ45 outlets to setup of small home office networks or adding wired connections to improve gaming performance.

  • Installation, repairs, replacement and troubleshooting of all aspects of communications and networking equipment for home and office networks, including IoT devices, gateways, CCTV equipment, network switches and wireless access points.

    Why choose Antenna Direct Perth?

If you’re seeking reliable, high-quality audio/visual installation services in Perth, Antenna Direct Perth stands out as a top choice for several compelling reasons:

    • Careful and considerate in your home

It’s important to us to leave your home the way you found it. During your antenna installation, we’re extremely careful on your roof and do everything possible to avoid damaging your roof tiles and in the very rare event that we do, we’ll do the right thing and let you know about it.

Antenna Direct Perth will always vacuum or sweep up after any wall drilling or general mess created whilst installing your antenna and its ports. Once we leave, you don’t have to do a thing. Just kick back and enjoy a clean and uninterrupted reception.

    • The Perth AV installer of choice

Antenna Direct Perth is an owner-operated business – so the technician you speak to on the phone is the same person who’ll carry out your TV antenna installation.

With expertise in antenna repairs and fault-finding, we don’t just default to replacing your antenna to save time or boost profit. We aim to fix the issue properly the first time – so you won’t need to call us back. But if you ever do, we’ll return and fix the job at no extra cost.

Antenna Direct Perth are also available 7 days a week, meaning you can get everything you need to be done at a time that’s convenient for you without needing to take time off work for installation of your antenna

    • Fully qualified and experienced

Antenna Direct always uses quality products that are either Australian owned and operated companies or is backed by a solid warranty that is valid in Australia.

All our installers have public liability insurance to the amount of $20 million, a certificate or a diploma in Telecommunications, White card and an open Cabler’s Licence with a “C” endorsement.

On top of all of that, you should hear what others say about the provider that you’re about to choose. A simple search on Google for “Antenna Direct” will bring up plenty of 5-star reviews from many of our happy clients.

    • Quality, thoroughly tested and secured

Choosing Antenna Direct is ensuring that the workmanship in your home is to the highest quality standards both structurally and aesthetically.

Other antenna installation companies in Perth will often be cheaper than us, but unfortunately for the consumer we’re not all offering the same products, longevity, signal strength or service levels, so when you get the cheapest quote possible, you’re subsidising that cost in the build quality of the materials as well as the care in the installation process.

We don’t say this to scare anyone or to convince them to go with us over our competitors. We simply see poor quality, Chinese made, antennas on people’s roofs that don’t take long to go faulty or antenna installation jobs that are dodgy and even just plain dangerous.

    Our guarantee

At Antenna Direct Perth, professionalism isn’t just a promise—it’s the foundation of everything we do.

Our work will be performed to the highest possible standard and thoroughly tested before we leave – and in the rare event that there ever is an issue, we’ll be back as a priority to make things right.

Do you use CAT6 or CAT6A cabling and what is the difference?

We use CAT6A cabling. CAT6A is similar to design to CAT6, however by TIA standards it is required to meet a more stringent performance specification and in order to do so the diameter of the copper strands and twist rate is slightly thicker, as well as a thicker spline which separates each wire pair to reduce crosstalk. All of these design changes allow the cable to have better crosstalk performance especially up to 500mhz.

This results in CAT6A data cabling being able to maintain a data rate of 10 gigabit/s at extended distances in comparison to CAT6, and much more significantly in comparison to CAT5 cables which many older homes in Perth have.

Is there a benefit using CAT7 or CAT8 cabling?

Very unlikely in residential applications. CAT7 is a marginal upgrade over CAT6A with no speed advantages, as the standard was actually introduced before CAT6A despite a higher number. CAT8 was a standard introduced by the TIA in 2016, allowing data speeds of upto 40 gigabit/s over twisted pair copper cable.

This comes with one significant drawback, which is a distance limit of 30 meters as well as complexity and power consumption of equipment. This specification is pushing copper cabling to it’s maximum limit which is showing diminishing speed returns. In the domestic market such as consumer electronics there is no device in existence that requires the use of such cabling. As such, CAT8 cabling has a very limited use case which is mostly in very few data centers for interconnecting enterprise grade network switches together.

With modern technology and Ethernet standards favoring much faster data speeds using fiber optic cabling with lower power consumption in mind, it has been expected that CAT6A data cable will satisfy speed requirements to user equipment until the transition to fiber optics for higher speeds takes precedence.

The practice of running CAT8 cabling in residential applications is often done for attempted future proofing and unlikely to see any benefit in the future, as most upcoming Ethernet standards being developed for speeds above 10 gigabit/s are designed for fiber optic cabling. In comparison, a 24 Core OS2 fiber optic cable supports speeds of up to 800 gigabit/s as well as many existing and proposed Ethernet standards.

Do I require a patch panel or rack for my data cabling?

Essentially whether you require a patch panel in a hub or rack, or a smaller termination point such as a single wall plate for all your data cabling depends on these 3 factors

      1. The number of data cabling that you are to have installed
      2. Which area or space you intend the data cabling to terminate or run to
      3. How much user equipment such as switches, router/gateway, and other devices you require to connect

A patch panel allows a large number of data cables to terminate in a relatively small space, however the enclosures required to fit most patch panels, in residential applications take up a large space, and are difficult to fit in certain locations

For smaller data cabling installations of around 4 and up to 8 data cables, the install can much easier be packaged inside single or dual wallplates side by side, allowing neat and hidden placement such as in pantries, cupboards and existing cabinets, and also reduces labour and parts cost.

Typically when terminating over 8 or more cables in one area, it can be effective to use a patch panel enclosed in a smart wiring hub or rack.  A rack also allows effective placement of various equipment that can be connected to the data cabling such as larger network switches, NAS units and security camera recorder units which all generally use a standard 19 inch footprint

The drawback of a data cabling rack, is that space requirements for the rack are quite large, and unsightly especially if it is to be placed inside a room in the house.  As most racks extend upto 400mm from the wall, they are unsuitable for placement in various areas.  A garage can often be the most suitable area to place a network rack, and an alternative is a smart wiring hub.
